The City of Essexville is planning to change all residential water meters to new Sensus synthetic bodied smart meters. All new meters will have auto read devices that transmit a signal to a centrally located receiver. The captured data will be used to generate quarterly residential billing. We are planning on integrating the new system with the Bay County Water Dept.
Bay County will have the central data hub and facilities required to receive our meter reads via an RTU and will process and generate and mail our water and sewer bills to our customers. The cost savings are based on field labor not reading meters, the expense of a vehicle and fuel used not driving around reading meters. The cost of this project is estimated to be $248,000.00 which will be paid from water and sewer revenues. In conjunction the use of smart meters that record all water use with no slippage and no moving parts will save the City thousands of dollars in billable usage presently lost due to aging conventional mechanical meters. These savings are not calculated in this narrative as they are outside the scope of "Shared Services". There are no barriers expected with this venture
