Description
The Michigan Public Power Agency (MPPA) (Lansing, MI) is a consortium of seventeen (17) municipal electric companies. The City of Grand Haven is a charter member. The purpose of this joint action agency is to purchase electric power supply and provide services to its members on a cooperative basis. The MPPA holds equity ownership in midwest power plants and purchases wholesale power from numerous private power suppliers. MPPA staff in Lansing provide engineering, training, compliance and dispatching services to its members. Cost savings are very difficult to calculate given the depth and complexity of the electric generation, transmission, distribution and compliance business. Therefore, only General Agency component costs are identified here. Update 10/18/17: this venture continues in 2017.
