The Cities of Grosse Pointe Woods, Grosse Pointe Shores, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe City and Grosse Pointe Park began planning in January 2012 for an automatic aid agreement which became effective in November 1, 2012. This agreement allows the Cities to directly and immediately assist each other in the case of an emergency.
Based upon designated target hazard locations in each of the communities or a report of an actual working fire, response will be immediate or automatic without having to go through the traditional protocols of our mutual aid agreement. This automatic aid agreement does not replace but rather enhances our existing mutual aid agreement by creating an additional level of support. This automatic response also increases firefighter safety on the fire ground and potentially will result in property conservation for our customers.
With this collaboration, each community is able to better prepare for emergencies through cross jurisdictional training and policy development while serving our respective residents more efficiently without having to expend costs normally incurred with additional equipment and personnel.
During this process, no barriers were encountered.
