Description
The Skillman Foundation has made a 10 year, $100 million commitment to the City of Detroit in the form of its Good Neighborhoods project. This project identifies six neighborhoods in Detroit that are among the most impoverished. Combined, these neighborhoods are home to 1/3 (65,000) of the City's children. The goal of this project is to properly allocate funding to eliminate poverty in these areas. This Skillman initiative enabled the City to designate overlapping neighborhood boundaries that allow the City and the foundation to work together toward a common goal. The Skillman Foundation, the City of Detroit, and other foundations comprise the Detroit Neighborhoods Forum which meets monthly. Currently, the Skillman Foundation is trying to leverage an additional $500 million dollars for this project. The success of this endeavor has led to national investment in the City. The Forum expects increased national investment, as the program gains recognition and success, allowing even greater accomplishments. Skillman contact person was Ed Egnatios, Coordinator for The Skillman Foundation - 100 Talon Centre Drive Detroit, MI 48207. Phone 313-393-1185 and email eegnatios@skillman.org
