The South Lyon Fire Department is a member of the Oakland and Livingston County Mutual aid pact. The cooperation results in risk reduction and possible cost savings. By having reciprocal mutual aid agreements, we are able to respond to reported fires in South Lyon with more manpower and equipment than our City maintains individually. We receive response credit from ISO because of this arrangement, which correlates to our public protection classification rating. Also, with membership to Oakland and Livingston County Mutual Aid groups, we have access to specialty rescue and hazardous materials teams that would otherwise cost the City over $100,000 annually in labor and equipment to maintain these capabilities independently.
